A story that began with music and gathering
Hotel Regina was not born from a business project. It was born from a bond: with the land, with the lake that flows slowly each day, and with a family that saw possibility where others saw only silence. It all began in the 1980s when Giacomo and Giovanni, two visionary brothers, chose to believe in the future of Lake Como long before it became a destination admired around the world. It was an act of intuition, almost of faith: imagining beauty where few were looking. That choice became a legacy passed down from generation to generation.
Hospitality has always been our language, a way of life, long before it became a profession.
Our Roots: a dream growing alongside our family
In the 1930s, the founders Giuseppe and Orsola embraced the path of those before them and opened a new chapter.
They created “Crotto Regina,” a warm gathering place for travelers, locals, and workers — simple, honest, alive with the spirit of a community deeply connected to its land.
Through changing times — good seasons, difficult ones, years of growth and years of rebuilding — our family held on to the same belief: keep going, keep improving, keep imagining what this place can become.
1930s — “La Balera dell’Ortica”
In the 1930s, founders Giuseppe and Orsola Rasella opened a small lakeside inn known as Crotto Regina.
Also called “La Balera dell’Ortica”, it quickly became a local gathering place — a space to dance, play games, and enjoy the simple, traditional flavors of local cuisine.
It was never just a place to eat or drink, but a place to be together.
1960s — A period of transition
With the arrival of the 1960s and the shift in social habits, the activity experienced a period of decline.
The second generation of the Rasella family temporarily pursued different professional paths, while the place quietly waited for its next chapter.
1980s — A New Vision Emerges
As tourism slowly began to grow around Lake Como, the idea of creating something larger started to take shape.
The family began imagining a hospitality experience that could blend tradition with comfort, authenticity with modern expectations.
It was a time of planning, dreaming, and believing that the lake could become a destination for guests from all over the world.
1998 — The Birth of Hotel Regina
A defining moment arrived in 1998, when Giacomo Rassella opened Hotel Regina.
It was a courageous step — transforming decades of family heritage into a full hospitality experience overlooking the lake.
Those early days were filled with emotion, determination, and the quiet confidence that guests were searching for something genuine.
The lake, always present, became part of the identity of the hotel from the very beginning.
2000s — Growing with Our Guests
As travel evolved, so did we.
The hotel expanded its services and spaces, always with one goal: improving comfort while preserving authenticity.
Rooms were renovated, outdoor areas enhanced, and the guest experience refined. Every improvement was made carefully, never losing the human and family dimension that defines us.
next chapter.
2009 — A New Milestone: The Lakefront Pool
One of our greatest dreams became reality with the creation of our panoramic pool overlooking Lake Como.
A space designed not simply as a facility, but as a place where guests could slow down, breathe, and fully connect with the surrounding landscape.
It marked the beginning of a new chapter focused on wellness, relaxation, and experiential hospitality.
2013–2018 — Renewal and Transformation
These years brought significant renovations and new investments in guest services.
Rooms were redesigned, infrastructure improved, and new facilities introduced to meet the expectations of modern travelers while maintaining the soul of the hotel.
Sustainability and innovation became part of our journey, including new services such as electric vehicle charging stations and upgraded guest areas.
Today — Hospitality as a Living Tradition
Today, Hotel Regina continues to be guided by the same family values that inspired its origins: care, dedication, simplicity, and authenticity.
Together with our team, we welcome guests not as visitors, but as part of our extended family.
We continue to improve, renovate, and imagine new ways to offer meaningful experiences while staying deeply connected to the lake and to our heritage.
A living story
Hotel Regina continues to evolve, guided by the same values that shaped its origins:
family, care, simplicity, and respect for the place. What began as a lakeside gathering spot has become a place of quiet hospitality — still rooted in the same landscape, still listening to the rhythm of the lake.
